Back to School

We have come to the end of a long vacation. The new school term has started, it will start. While this is welcomed with happiness by some students, it is a worrying situation for some. Actually, if you look at it, that’s exactly what we’re talking about! How can we make a positive start to the new school term? Or let’s ask like this. How can we, the parents, achieve this, how can we achieve it?

First of all, we can say that making a positive start to a new school term is an important criterion that affects the student both in terms of the child’s social and emotional development and academically. For this reason, parents need to show a realistic and positive attitude by planning in advance.

And what are they?

Setting Boundaries: We always say setting boundaries, setting boundaries… Because your child needs boundaries and rules in order to show a healthy social and emotional development. No matter how much these boundaries seem to be limiting the imagination of families, this is actually a wrong idea. Children feel safe when boundaries are set and, accordingly, they do not show aggressive attitudes and behaviors. For this reason, families should be aware of this and introduce their children to boundaries at an early age. Children who recognize boundaries can adapt much easier because they internalize school rules more easily.
Sleep and Eating Routine: There will definitely be shifts in your eating and sleeping patterns during the holiday. Very normal! The important thing is to try to put this back in order. For this reason, update your sleeping and eating patterns at least 1 week in advance so that your child does not feel excessively tired when returning to school. Especially remember that breakfast is the most important meal. Try to include protein-heavy foods in this meal.
Create Activities: Create activities that contribute to your children in a cognitive sense. Jigsaw puzzles, book activities or lego works are just a few of them. If you spend productive time with your children during the summer semester, you can help your children to adapt to school routines more easily and improve their concentration.
School Visits: One of the biggest mistakes that is usually made is not to get the opinion of our children in school elections. Of course, you are the ones who make the final decision. But before registering for school, you should allow your child to spend time there, get to know his school, classroom, teacher. Although this process often seems unnecessary, you will see how functional it is when applied.
Friend Relations: School means new friends, group activities. Of course, we cannot expect a child who has spent time individually for a long time or who is used to having all the attention only on himself to get used to school life at once. We need time for this. Especially, we should consider the first week as a process of getting students used to school, teachers, class and friends. During this period, which we call the orientation week, classroom teachers and guidance counselors should support the child when necessary by making observations about the school adaptation process. You parents should also make domestic observations and request support from guidance counselors in line with their needs.
Classroom Formations: Classroom formations are at the top of the issues that need to be considered for the social and emotional development of students. Do you know what classes that change every year add to your children? Let’s talk about it briefly, then. Classroom changes aim to support children’s different friendships and different adult relationships, to be open to changes from an early age, to remain in the dimension of commitment rather than the dimension of dependence in their relationships with friends and teachers, and at the same time to prevent the continuation of negative relationships that can be established. Therefore, please trust your school about which class or which teacher your child should be in.
These substances can increase in this way. However, the important thing is that you maintain a calm and cool attitude. It is very common for separation anxiety to occur, especially in students who have their first kindergarten experience or are just starting primary school. However, what you need to do is to take the basic precautions we mentioned above. Then, on the first day of school, you leave there without spending too much time at school, telling what time you will pick up. And, of course, to comply with the time you have given. By the way, I say, don’t forget to tell “her” every morning how much you love her! Dec.
