Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by decreased sustained attention, increased impulsivity, or mobility. The incidence rate is higher in boys than in girls.

Usually, children with ADHD are diagnosed and diagnosed at school age. The reason for this is the uncertainty of where the excessive behavior that is considered normal in preschool age group children begins, at what level it should be, or where it should end.

There are basically 2 causes of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. These are genetic and biological factors.

Genetic factors

It is a condition in which children with ADHD, their parents or close relatives have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

Biological factors

The maximum level of impulsivity due to neurological differences is the presence of behavioral and learning problems due to this.
Apart from all these reasons, there are reasons that support them and make it difficult for us to control the existing situation. These:

Unhealthy relationships and lack of interest that parents form towards their children,
They are additives in ready-made foods.
The symptoms of children with attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder are as follows.

Symptoms of hyperactivity and impulsivity:

Having difficulty standing and sitting still,
Constantly talking,
Experiencing difficulties in studies that need to be done quietly,
Being constantly on the move,
Having difficulty in queue waiting behaviors,
Interrupting other people’s words.
Symptoms of attention deficit:

Inability to focus on details,
Don’t get bored during studies,
Having difficulty focusing on multitasking,
Having difficulty organizing thoughts and learning new information,
Slowing down in movements, immersion in thoughts and slowing down in perception,
Difficulty following the instructions.
At this stage, guidance counselors working within the school are doing a great job. First of all, it is a priority to be noticed by the student and then recognized. The guidance counselor is obliged to combine the observations he has made and the observations of the classroom guidance counselor. With the evaluations he makes, he should direct both the family and the classroom teacher responsible for the student, and if necessary, he should inform the family that getting expert support from outside is not a situation to be afraid of.

So what should families do?

Parents with a child with ADHD face many challenging behaviors or situations every day. For this reason, they are starting to find the right ways for themselves and to try. At this point, parents who accept your child’s personal differences, show patience and develop methods of gaining behavior according to your child win. When we need to sort out what needs to be done, it is possible to say the following.

Reinforce the child’s good behavior even if it does not meet your expectations!
See what the child has done. Direct your own point of view to the positive!
Try to eliminate problematic situations by acting before your child!

But as I said at the very beginning, it is the most important criterion for parents with children with ADHD to accept, understand their children’s differences and develop realistic solutions to this.
